MaxX & Love Profile Photo

Band

MaxX & Love are a Blues duo primarily inspired by African and Delta Blues.
Formed in 2021, they entered the music scene with a lucid blend of the old fashioned, enlivened with an experimental sound. They began to infuse a lot of their own current influences to the Blues with a stylistic depth and emotional resonance.
Encompassing a wide array of soundscapes, storytelling and musical styles, their take on the Blues is one of an interpersonal musical journey.

The pair met in film school back in 2013 and began as friends, with a mutual respect for one another’s talents and work ethics. Coming from different musical and cultural backgrounds, their differences only served to strengthen their collaborative artistic relationship. With Love leaning towards Jazz, Soul and Experimental music and MaxX hailing from a maelstrom of guitar-dense Rock ’n Roll, they found a dirt crossroad at which their styles and genres can dance with a sense of musical space that allowed them to shine individually, while working holistically within the context of the duo.
Within their first year as a musical act in 2021, they shared numerous stages with established acts such as Dan Patlansky, Albert Frost, Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse and The Black Cat Bones.
By their second year, they were listed in Forbes Africa’s: Top 10 Rising Stars in Africa, which paved way to the duo scoring a short film for Quizzical Pictures. Such a milestone prompted the recording of their first single, ‘He’s Got Your Love’, moreover, they’ve been hard at work on their debut album; These Blues Might Get You Too.

“The Blues is a feeling” - A sentiment that the pair shares with their music, which largely captures the maturity of their artistic passion. With a nostalgic voice, a wailing guitar and a lot of respect, MaxX & Love pay homage to the origins of contemporary western music - The Blues.
