BIOGRAPHY - The Unforgettable and Multi-Faceted Anna Wolf
London based Anna Wolf is a force in the music scene, leaving an indelible mark with her
alternative soundscapes that resonate long after the last note fades. With a hauntingly
beautiful sound that blends romance and darkness, she captivates audiences and critics alike
—once described as the love child of Sia and Johnny Cash. Born and raised in Pretoria,
South Africa, Anna is a self-taught musician who began writing songs at just five years old
and signed her first record deal at the age of 14. Growing up in a tumultuous household, she
used songwriting as an outlet, seeking answers and meaning in the daily domestic abuse she
both experienced and witnessed.
So her journey began…
With a impressive of collaborators includes music legends like Sir Johnny Clegg, Trey Call
(Cash Cabin Studios), Jamie Morrison (Stereophonics), Pete Boxta Marten (Melanie C,
Missy Elliott), Alex Thomas (Air, Anna Calvi), Mat-Katz Bohen (Blondie), Zak Loy (Live),
and Rex Roulette (Eagles of Death Metal) and DJ Jenga.
Wolf nominated for accolades both in South Africa and the UK includes, Best Newcomer,
Best Alternative Album, Best Pop Album, and Most Innovative Artist. Tracks from her
album The Dark Horse, such as "Shaped Like A Gun" and "Wolf," captured audiences around
the globe when featured on FOX Network's hit show So You Think You Can Dance for two
consecutive seasons. Due to her cinematic sound scape Anna’s music has been dominating
the choreograph dance world for years. In 2019, Anna Wolf made history as the first South
African artist to win the Grand Prize at the Global Unsigned Only Competition for
emerging talent. The esteemed judging panel included renowned musicians like Robert
Smith (The Cure) and Aimee Mann, who praised Anna as a compelling and rare artist.
They lauded her passionate delivery, hauntingly beautiful vocals, and the emotional depth
and vulnerability in her songwriting, solidifying her status as one of the most magnetic
talents in today’s music landscape.
When Anna describes herself as multifaceted, she means it in every sense. Anna reflects,
"When I was little, I played an imaginary game where I was everything. In essence, that has
come true; today, I am truly everything, and I do it successfully. When making an artistic
choice, intention is eveything. Focusing on the artistry of the project, the playfulness of every
body of work and not taking myself too seriously is key to keeping grounded and letting the
work speak for itself.” In 2024 Anna has added author to her reumsé with a self-published
poetry book titled Medicine. At the book launch Wolf hosted a sell out event that hosted 200
guests in a cinema in the heart of London’s Soho. For the event Anna directed a short film
and created an immersive pop-up shop that resembled a forest on the inside of the building.
In 2023, Anna starred alongside BAFTA nominee Diane Quick and Screen Actors Guild
Award winner Bernard Hill in the film Forever Now, featuring her music throughout the
movie.
Currently, Anna is working in Hendersonville, Nashville, at Cash Cabin Studios (Johnny
Cash Studio) with producer Trey Call on a new body of work set for release in early 2025,
aiming to tell stories through organic, acoustic guitar and tribal sounds. “I’m eager to share
this project; I hope people find solace and comfort in the stories I tell,” she adds. Anna
releases her latest single, “FREE,” on 18 October 2024 produced by Alex Thomas (Air &
Anna Calvi) a powerful anthem about finding freedom through self-love. Described as a
cinematic, visceral , “distrotionate valve synth sound”, something to behold when played
live.
